Hooded eyes occur when skin above the crease — either from a lower brow position or excess upper-eyelid skin — folds down and covers part of the visible eyelid. This is different from a monolid, which lacks a crease entirely.
Hooding interacts heavily with hunter eyes: a low, hooded lid combined with a deep-set orbit and positive canthal tilt reads as intense and masculine; the same hooding without those other traits can look tired or aged. Hooding tends to increase with age due to skin laxity, which is why upper blepharoplasty (eyelid surgery) is a common aesthetic procedure later in life.
